#0044 Author Life: The Inspiration of Bezek

December was a lazy month. There's a voice in the back of my head reminding me that I could have done more work during December, but I'm ignoring. With all the holiday events and my birthday, December just gives casual slacking-off vibes. You know?

While slacking-off, I did complete one of the greatest videogames of all time, which also inspired a part of the The Visions of Bezek. Maybe you've heard of it. It's called, Persona 3. While I played the FES version back while I was in college, there's been an updated version released named, Persona 3 Reload, and that's the version I beat this December. While it's far improved, not much was changed about what I love.

Persona 3 Reloaded

There are various reason I play videogames. Probably at the top of my list is the gameplay elements. When the original Persona 3 released it stood out to me, by having two very different gameplay focuses. During the evenings, you can explore a mysterious tower that appears during an extra hour after midnight, that only a few people can experience. This is pretty basic turned-based, random battle RPG exploration. This is fun, but there are many other games that tackle this type of gameplay. During the day; however, you interact with classmates and other residents of the town building social skills that have an impact on your strength while exploring at night. It's a very different concept from most games. Your connections with others make you stronger. Their faith in you improves you. I like that. I'm glossing over a great deal of the complexities of the game, but it's a wonderful mash up of traditional RPG gameplay and some kind of social interaction gameplay.

So how does this connect to my novel? Tarot cards. Each social link in Persona 3 is paired with a Tarot card. While many other popular medias utilize Tarot information, Persona 3 has and continues to be the most memorable of them. It was this game that inspired me to create the chapters of my novel loosely linked to Tarot cards.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend playing Persona 3 Reloaded. It has an amazing story and is backed by solid gameplay. You might even learn a little about yourself as you interact with others. I did. You can get it on Amazon here.
