Open the champagne! We’re celebrating. September 14, 2023 marked the one-year anniversary of the Whispers Newsletter blog and mailing list. It’s mind blowing to think that I’ve been doing this for over a year now. How have I survived?
When I first started Whispers, I didn't know what I was doing. Fortunately, there’s a wealth of information on the internet about blogs and mailing lists. Before then, I’d never made a blog, nor had I used an email service like Mail Chimp. It was all a tremendous learning curve, but over the months I’ve certainly gotten a better hold on everything.
The very first blog post and email were called “0001-Welcome to Whispers.” It was fairly short and simple, providing details about the newsletter, ZanderverZ, and myself. The emailed newsletter went out to seven people. All individuals I knew, of course. I wouldn’t be here today without their support. If one of you are reading this, thank you for the love and support you've always sent my way.
Back when I started, I had the lofty goal of posting and emailing on a weekly basis. So the second newsletter released September 21, 2022. After about twenty weeks, I realized that weekly releases were going to be the death of me. My sanity was slowly slipping away from me. Don’t forget, I’m also a full‑time accountant, and during certain parts of the year, that means 60 hours a week. So on February 1st I changed to monthly releases, the first Wednesday of each month. There’s more content with each release and the emails are designed like a newspaper, so I’m not really sure I’ve made less work for myself. Either way, it feels like less work because it’s a decrease in frequency.
Today marks the 29th newsletter, but this is the 45th blog post because I now post about three blogs for each newsletter. I’ve come a long was from the original seven subscribers. The email newsletter now goes out to over 150 people. In other words, many people have accidentally signed up for my mailing list. I’m joking. It would be difficult to accidentally sign up. Here’s to hoping that number will double next year. Fingers crossed.
With all that said: Cheers! I appreciate every single subscriber, and I invite any of you that have questions or comments about my works to reach out to me here. I’d love to hear from you.
